Hey friends,
I figured this week would be a good time to showcase some of the toys I’ve been buying during the Q4 craziness and give some insight into my buying decisions. Some are flips. Some are holds. Some may pan out, some won’t. But I figured I’d toss out some ASINs and give you some details on why I purchased them.
Before we dive in, please remember:
This is not a lead list.
Don’t just go and hunt these toys down and buy them just because I did, especially if they’re now at a higher price. This article is for learning purposes. If you agree with my analysis and can get it for the same price or better — go for it! But again, this is just to give insight, tips, and strategies — not convince you to go buy specific items.
LEGO Ideas Fender Stratocaster 21329
Buy Cost: $76.54 + 12% cash back
Current Amazon Price: $83.99
Flip or Hold?: Hold
Analysis: I think this was one of my favorite LEGO opportunities of the year. I was absolutely gut-punched over the fact that it didn’t make it past the Walmart+ pre-sale, because I would have loved to order HUNDREDS at the $70 price point, tax free, with cash back. Unfortunately, I had to play it safe with a single order of 20 units (and pay tax) because I didn’t want to jeopardize my Walmart+ account.
If a genie came down and told me that I could liquidate $50,000 of inventory and magically have it all turn into this LEGO set at that price point — I would have done it.
I was already a fan of this set at $96, but $70 and cash back was just PHENOMENAL. Why was it so good?
Because selling at MSRP of $119.99 you’re already making 21% ROI. That doesn’t even include the 12% cash back. The set is retiring at the end of the year, and sells 800 - 1,000 times per month at MSRP. Any sort of supply that floods the market for quick flips will quickly evaporate, and then it’s off the moon.
Your worst case scenario is Amazon staying in stock at 20% off MSRP, which even then you lose a few bucks on the sale, but you actually profit overall because of the cash back.
You wouldn’t even have to sell for a loss though in a worst case scenario, because you would have NO ISSUE selling this locally for $80.00 cash during Q4.
Screw it, I think if a genie came down and told me I could transform $100,000 of my inventory into this set at $70 and cash back I would have said “YES PLEASE!”
I think a very conservative estimate for this set by next Christmas is $149.99, and that would be 60% ROI not including cash back. Imagine if it goes to $199.99? You don’t have to imagine, because it will be there eventually.
This is our ideal type of investment. Absolutely NO risk, and IMMENSE upside.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this deal since it ended. Absolutely gut-wrenching I couldn’t get more.
Massive congrats to those who took a bigger risk than me and ordered a ton with their W+ accounts and didn’t get canceled. I envy you.
